Therapeutic Colored Contact Lenses

Tinted contact lenses are nothing new as far as science. The visual system has benefited from the effects of color vision to treat physical and psychological conditions like jaundice or mental disorders ever since the late 1800s.

Part of what causes eye strain or headaches can be linked to an imbalance of light, poor image alignment, or weak eye muscles that struggle to bring you clear eyesight.

However, patients who suffer from photophobia, constant migraines, retinal dystrophies, reading difficulties, or even vertigo often have these difficulties.

Want to order a pair of therapeutic contact lenses?
Book a Contact Lens Exam with Dr. Matthew Hendrickson.
Alternatively, send us a prescription for Orion Lenses from your local optometrist. The prescription must be written specifically for Orion lenses and include the base curve. We recommend they include the diameter of the tints also to ensure the tint covers the pupil. You can not order these lenses using a regular eyeglasses prescription or regular contact lens prescription.

At Clarity Eye Care, many patients have benefited from custom colored contacts created by Dr. Matthew Hendrickson.

Since the eye system transmits information directly to brain, any slight disturbance in visual quality will leave a person with poor balance or poor sensory perception.

However, when a patient is fitted with a therapeutic, tinted, colored contact lens, a person can immediately have their life restored back to normal.

The use of colored contact lenses for patients with visual disabilities has become an amazing, convenient, and proven solution for many people in Lombard, IL

Clarity Eye Care can help you find the best options for you

To learn more about the beneficial effects of colored custom contact lenses and therapeutic tinting, schedule a consultation with Dr. Matthew Hendrickson, today.

Colored contact lenses are often provided in a limited selection from major contact lens manufacturers, but not only do they force the choice of colors to only a few options, but the contact lenses may not be of sound quality, comfort, or design that would make for a worthy investment.

Whether for Halloween costumes, a theatrical appearance, or impressing your friends and family, Clarity Eye Care can help you discover the best options of colored contact lenses from standard to custom.

Assisting Patients With Migraines, Blepharospasm, & Other Light-Sensitive Conditions

Developed by Orion Therapeutic, the lavender colored tint has shown in research to benefit patients with:

  • Migraine headaches
  • Blepharospasm
  • Light triggered seizures
  • CVS (Computer Vision Syndrome)
  • Other light-sensitive/triggered conditions.

Orion Therapeutic was first described in a research project that took place in Birmingham, England in the early 90’s.  The study concluded that children with migraine headaches who wore Orion Therapeutic filtered spectacles improved their light sensitivity, resulting in less frequent & less severe migraine headaches. These filtered lenses, since then, have been used to treat various conditions like migraines.

Prosthetic Contacts Lenses in Post-Concussion Photophobis

Photophobia is a common and debilitating symptom in post-concussion syndrome. Pain sensation to the head, face and eye is transmitted by the trigeminal pathway which gathers input from rhodopsin and melanopsin origins. The melanopsin pathway is related to circadian rhythm and pupillary light response with peak sensitivity at 479nm.

Melanopsin sensitive cells have been identified in the retina and the iris making an argument for blocking light from both. Spectacles with amber tint (CPF series) and rose tint (Orion Therapeutic Blue Blocker) limit blue light and are used for photophobia in cone dystrophies, blepharospasm, and migraine headaches.

Limitations to wearing sunglasses indoors include cosmetic/social issues and stray light behind the spectacle lens. The purpose of this study was to assess the benefits of wearing tinted prosthetic contact lenses instead of spectacles for photophobia.

  • This lens helps reduce glare during competitive sporting events without having to wear bulky—sometimes loose-fitting—sunglasses.

  • Both Mark Mcguire and Chipper Jones have worn these lenses.
Green

9 19 2

Green mildly heightens contrast while preserving color balance, which helps in the bright outdoor light.

Bolle Blue

10 1 10 2

Bolle Blue blocks blue light and “brightens” yellow light. A great choice for tennis, football, and daytime baseball.

  • NFL players Mario Williams, Kroy Bierman, Charles Tillman & Marques Colston are wearing these.
  • Soccer player Kevin Hartman also wears these.
Sun Tac

11 111 2

Sun Tac reduces overall brightness while preserving 100 percent normal color recognition such as with sunglasses. Successful in treating light sensitivity issues, it is perfect for outdoor activity on a sunny day, especially running.

Gray Green

12 112 2

Gray Green offers sun protection and improved contrast sensitivity, making it ideal for golf.

  • Golfers will be able to better differentiate distance on a golf course.
  • Golfer Justin Leonard has commented that the Gray Green lenses make it easier to separate every blade of grass.
Yellow
